Tools to Stay Calm, Centred and Resourceful in Challenging Times

Hey Abundance Coders… 

It’s more important than ever for all of us to stay positive, calm, connected and in our highest state of resourcefulness. And I know that’s challenging right now! So to help you out, this week I’ve compiled a list of resources that can keep you centred.

I got plenty of messages on Facebook and by email from people who found that blog super helpful, and it was widely shared. In it, I gave some simple tips for getting yourself back into a centred state, so that you can get out of the “Fight, Flight or Freeze” reaction mode and think more clearly. You need your calm, cool and collected wits about you right now!

This week I’m expanding upon those tips and providing links to some very practical tools…


One of the quickest ways to calm yourself is to do deep breathing, with a longer count for the exhale than the inhale. This stimulates the side of the nervous system that tells your body and mind “it’s okay to calm down”. And that brings the part of your mind back online that’s better at logically figuring out what to do. 

Right now your more primitive, reactive, instinctive brain systems are not helping you much, but they are no doubt activated and on high alert. Deep breathing will help you quickly switch back into the rational systems that are more useful to you right now. 

Try inhaling for a count of 6, pause for a count of 1, exhale for a count of 8 and then pause again for a count of 1. And repeat. 

We’re all supposed to be washing our hands as much as possible so try a couple of rounds of this breathing every time you’re at the sink. Stop if it makes you feel light headed.


Mindfulness meditations, visualisations and affirmations are also going to really help you keep the calm carrying on. If you don’t meditate already, then guided meditations are a great way to start. And if you do meditate already, then consider adding one or two more guided meditations to your routine every day in these stressful times.

The first meditation is called Your Land of Abundance. It’s a visualisation where you deeply tap into the creative power of your subconscious mind to manifest the abundant life you truly deserve. 

Every situation in life, “good” or “bad”, is an opportunity for evolution. And what you want is to keep hooking into your next level of abundant evolution, no matter what. Never stop meditating on it. Especially when it seems to be moving farther out of reach, because that’s when you need to spend time hooking into it even more deeply by visiting “Your Land of Abundance”!

The second meditation I have for you is called The Perfect Baby. This meditation is designed specifically to boost your sense of self-worth and self-esteem, as well as your sense of being safe, loved and supported by The Universe. 

When times are challenging, a lot of people can experience feelings of failure and self blame. As if they ‘deserve’ the difficult situations that they’re going through. Or, they can externalise these feelings by projecting blame and anger outwards instead. Neither of which is very helpful.

The best way I find to short-circuit this tendency of blame, shame or guilt is to relax into my guided meditation called “The Perfect Baby”. It’s a meditation that I feel was revealed to me by my own spiritual master, as a great and precious gift. It has a soothing effect on a rattled and over-stimulated nervous system, and it helps me to restore faith in myself. It has a very healing effect too.

The third meditation I have for you is called The Box of Beautiful Feelings. This guided meditation is actually a sophisticated method of next level manifestation. There’s a lot going on under the hood of this one!

In it, you focus on the feeling state of what you want to manifest in your abundant life. This process instructs your subconscious mind, and your super-conscious ( aka ‘The Universe’) about exactly what you want to FEEL in your abundance… while at the same time allowing you to surrender the “how to get there” part to your subconscious and superconscious to figure out for you. Then, TRUST that they will figure it out for you. This allows your conscious mind to relax, flow and respond to what IS in this moment without leaking so much energy into denial, resistance and emotional suffering.

I promise you, the subconscious and superconscious parts of your mind are way better at achieving what you want than your comparatively tiny conscious mind is. So, let that task go from the ‘spinning wheels’ of your conscious mind and shunt it into the systems that can actually handle it and get it done. You can access a great feeling of freedom when you do that.

Okay, one more meditation resource (seriously, you can’t have too many!)

Read Inspirational Books

It looks like some of us may have more time on our hands, so this is an opportunity to read some of the inspirational books you’ve always wanted to dive into. But deciding which books to read first can be the hard part.

My friend and blogger Olivier Roland has put together a great review site of “books that can change your life”.

On this site you can check out loads of in-depth reviews on books (classics as well as newer titles) that are specifically selected because they have the power to change your life. 

In some cases the reviews are so comprehensive that you may not even need to read the whole book!

There’s loads of great stuff on to inspire you, support your health and keep your psychological well being on point. Including videos on yoga, guided meditations, how to make healthy and immune boosting food and much more. There are also tons of free yoga, meditation, workout and healthy eating videos available on YouTube. 

(NOTE: There’s also some more ‘conspiracy theory’ type stuff available on and YouTube too, and while I find that stuff interesting sometimes I feel like now is NOT the best time to be going down those rabbit holes. Keep it positive and focused on what can help and support you mentally and physically in this current reality.)
